January's Choice:
Witch of Wild Things by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland
Hey friends,
As we read our January book club choice, Witch of Wild Things by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland, I wanted to share the questions I’ll be sitting with before posting my own reflections.
These aren’t meant to be homework — just gentle guideposts. Some readers enjoy having a few thoughts to carry with them as they read, especially in a shared book club space. Others prefer to wander through a story without prompts at all. Both ways are welcome here.
If you’d like, you can keep one or two of these questions in mind as you read, journal about them, or simply notice what rises naturally for you. Answering them later (or at all) is never required.
Here are a few things you might consider while reading:
What drew you to this book, or what made you curious enough to begin?
Was there a moment, image, or line that lingered with you after you closed the book?
How does the story handle themes of place, memory, or identity?
Did any character feel especially familiar — or surprisingly distant?
How did the pacing feel to you? Did the story invite lingering, or did it ask to be read quickly?
If you could read this book in a specific setting — a season, a room, a place — where would it be?
Did this book offer comfort, challenge you, or provide a quiet escape?
What kind of reader did this book seem to ask you to be?
And if none of these quite fit — what question did the book quietly ask you?
I’m very much looking forward to sharing my thoughts soon, and even more to hearing yours, in whatever way feels right.
Until then, happy reading.
